Toral Pandya’s practice unfolds as a meditation on the formless—the unseen, the ungraspable, and the ever-becoming. Guided by a poetic sensibility, her work dwells in the threshold between material and immaterial, tracing states of transition where form dissolves into sensation. Her poem “Formless Forms” (“I am not this shape you see / I am not where you left me / I do not begin with light, nor end in shadow / I am the space between both— / a silence that speaks in waves”) encapsulates this ethos, articulating a consciousness that resists containment, where being and nothingness coexist in fluid exchange. Through her lino cuts and etchings, Pandya evokes gestures of impermanence: marks that shift, fade, and reappear like breath—transforming her surfaces into sites of quiet metamorphosis. Each work becomes an encounter rather than a depiction, inviting viewers to experience rather than interpret, to sense rather than see. Her art does not seek to define the world but to dissolve within it, revealing the subtle pulse of existence that lives between sound and silence, thought and feeling, form and formlessness.

Toral Pandya’s (b. 1997) practice reflects on the formless and the intangible, moving beyond the material to explore states of becoming and transformation. Rooted in a poetic sensibility, her work navigates the liminal space between presence and absence, form and formlessness. Through printmaking and painting, she channels notions of motion without destination, silence that speaks, and fragility that resists definition. Her visual language emerges from a deep engagement with abstraction, where gestures, textures, and impressions are not representations of reality but portals to experiences that resist being named.

At the heart of her practice is the pursuit of the in-between — the moment just before something takes shape, the fleeting hush before sound, the flicker before flame. She treats the process of making as an act of becoming, where marks, erasures, and impressions mirror the impermanence and fluidity of existence. In this way, her works are less about fixed images and more about encounters — encounters with time, silence, and the ephemeral states of being. By resisting form, she creates an opening for viewers to inhabit the formless, to sense rather than define.

Pandya has studied in Gujarat and she holds a Master of Visual Art in Graphic Arts - Printmaking from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara (2023 - 2025) and a Bachelor of Visual Art in Painting from Charutar Vidya Mandal University, Anand (2018 - 2022). She also holds a Bachelor’s in Interior Design from Sardar Patel University, Anand, (2016 - 2019). Her works have been shown in group exhibitions in Baroda (2025), Pune (2024), and Udaipur (2022). She was also awarded by the Lalit Kala Akademi for Painting.
