"My artworks aim to bring their stories to the forefront — celebrating the dignity of labor and the resilience of people whose voices are too often unheard."
Patel's figures highlight stories of survival, compassion, and dignity that are overlooked.
Harsh Patel’s (b. 1998) artistic practice is deeply rooted in the experiences of the Vicharti Jati Samuday (nomadic/denotified tribes), a marginalized community in Gujarat. Collaborating with the Being Together Trust, Patel draws inspiration from their struggles and resilience, transforming these encounters into visual narratives that foreground their humanity. His works often depict poignant figures — elderly women, laborers, children, and even animals — to highlight stories of survival, compassion, and dignity that are frequently overlooked. Patel’s practice expands the role of the artist: not only as an image-maker but also as a storyteller and collaborator, committed to amplifying marginalized voices and nurturing inclusive cultural dialogues.
While socially grounded, his practice is equally invested in creative expression for children. His watercolor series ‘Banana Story’ uses playful imagery to inspire joy and imagination among children in slum areas, while projects like ‘Slum Dogs’ reflect the community’s empathy towards animals. Through expressive brushwork, vibrant colors, and printmaking processes, Patel creates works that bridge personal encounters with broader social realities, inviting viewers to reflect on hidden narratives.
Patel earned his Master of Visual Arts in Graphic Arts from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara (2021-2023) after completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at M.A. Parikh Arts & Fine Arts College, Palanpur (2018 - 2021). His work has been featured in Voice of India (Cincinnati Museum Centre, Ohio, 2024 and Nine Fish Gallery, Mumbai, 2025), 150+ Printmakers: Inherited Impressions (Nine Fish Gallery, Mumbai, 2024), From Field to Frame (The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara and Conflictorium, Ahmedabad, 2024), and the Baroda Art Trail (Vadodara, 2024). In addition to exhibitions, Patel conducts workshops with NGOs and schools across Gujarat from drawing workshops for children in Kheda, to terracotta workshops in Deesa, using art as a means of community-building and empowerment.
