"My memories are associated with the farmers of my village — their fields, ponds, and streets. I grew up playing in those streets, where children made joy out of very little. I try to depict that sense of memory and play through my work."
Through the mediums of woodcut and etching, Beniwal translates personal memory into a broader social and cultural narrative.
Vijay Singh Beniwal’s (b.1994) work is deeply informed by his rural upbringing in Jogiwala village, Haryana. Through the mediums of woodcut and etching, he translates personal memory into a broader social and cultural narrative, balancing traditional printmaking practices with contemporary concerns. His series Childhood Tractor draws on his lived experiences of growing up in a farming community, transforming rural play and collective memory into visual metaphors that capture the vitality of everyday life. Through his practice, Beniwal creates a dialogue between memory, material, and community, using printmaking as a way to preserve and reimagine the textures of rural life for contemporary audiences.
After completing his Bachelor of Visual Art in Painting from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur (2018 - 2021), where he graduated as a Gold Medalist. Beniwal pursued a Master of Fine Art in Printmaking at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh (2021 - 2023). Alongside his rigorous training in painting and graphics, he has participated in workshops and residencies that expanded his engagement with multidisciplinary print practices.
