"For me, printmaking is life. The paper boats, drifting kites, or birds that appear in my work may seem simple, but they carry the weight of vulnerability, freedom, and longing."
Image making, for Paul, is not only a medium but a meditative ritual.
Sandipan Paul’s (b. 2000) practice emerges from an inward space of reflection, positioning art as a tool for self-discovery and healing. Printmaking, for him, is not only a medium but a meditative ritual, where repetition, layering, and carving become ways of channeling emotion into form. His works often feature deceptively simple motifs of a paper boat, a drifting kite, a bird in flight, that transform into metaphors of life, of living. In these quiet, lyrical images, he blurs the boundary between inner feeling and external reality, creating prints that are both intimate and contemplative.
Born near Kolkata and now based in Vadodara, Paul completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, Kolkata (2017-2021), and his Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Arts from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara (2023-2025). His works have been exhibited at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata. Most recently, he participated in the 23rd International Print Biennial (Varna, Bulgaria, 2025).
