As Devna recounts, "This painting is inspired by my parents and the night conversations they often have. I saw my father sitting inside the mosquito net while my mother was talking to him from outside. That image stayed with me because it felt deeply symbolic. The mosquito net became like a veil, creating a quiet boundary between them even while they were talking with one another." The painting reflects the invisible distances, emotions, and unspoken spaces that can exist within close relationships—where love, care, and silence exist together.
Devna Rajoria's artistic practice comes from her lived experience of home—where life begins and ends, and where laughter, tension, chaos, moody silences, late-night talks, fights, and everyday lessons shape who we are. Rather than journaling, Rajoria paints and draws, reflecting on these everyday experiences and the emotions they carry. Working with mundane life experiences and the objects that complete us, her artworks act as visual storytellers, portraying the dynamics of home and the ways we are made up of each other's stories and emotions. Painting is central to her practice: she begins with a loose drawing and lets the composition grow intuitively, leaving her brushstrokes visible as carriers of emotion and structure. Her colours are chosen spontaneously but never randomly, shaped by her surroundings, lived experience, and mood in the moment of painting. Alongside painting, Rajoria works with paper collage, using newspaper and magazine advertisements as her colour palette—tearing and placing small pieces of paper by hand in a process that is spontaneous, meditative, and built on recycled materials. Whether through paint or paper, her practice remains centred on expressing the emotions, relationships, and everyday experiences that make a home.
Rajoria has recently completed her Master of Fine Art at the College of Art, New Delhi (2024–2026), having completed her Bachelor of Fine Art at the same institution with distinction (2020–2024); she qualified NET in January 2026. Her exhibitions include the 70th, 69th, 68th, and 67th Annual Exhibitions at the College of Art, New Delhi (2023–2026), In the Small Infinite at Method, Kolaba, Mumbai (2025), Unboxing at Hotel Lalit's Art Junction (2025), and a group show at Mool Multidimensional Art Studio in collaboration with Voice Against Genocide (2025). She has co-curated and exhibited in several shows at Nero Art Hub, including The Mask We Wear (2025), Silent Conversions in the Night (2024), and Breaking the Barrier (2024), alongside conducting woodcut printmaking and mural workshops, the latter in collaboration with BMW's sustainability project. She has interned with the Lalit Kala Akademi and ICCR in collaboration with the embassies of Greece and Costa Rica (2021), and with the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi (2022), where she also volunteers. Her academic honours include First and Second Prizes in her MFA first and final years respectively, under the Awards and Honors section.
